Watch now | I drove out to the site of one of the most controversial new ICE facilities in the country this afternoon, an 825,000 square foot warehouse built with the hopes of being used or sold to a logistics company like Amazon but which was recently purchased by Immigration and Customs and Enforcement for a million dollars to hold people instead of boxes.
The immense size and the lack of windows... It gives me the shivers thinking about how many thousands of people they want to lock up inside that warehouse, locked up in the dark, no way to see the sun. Brrr!!! #AbolishICE
Thank you so much for looking into these horrific warehouses! I'm leading community efforts in Oakwood, Georgia to oppose a planned detention center here. Yesterday the City of Oakwood passed a resolution demanding DHS stay any further action on the warehouse until certain conditions are met. Last week the Hall County Board of Commissioners passed a moratorium on BOTH data and detention centers. Needless to say we have been working tirelessly and around the clock to get our demands met and to protect our community. About 60% of Hall County is Hispanic and Gainesville has the largest undocumented population in the U.S, according to some reports. (Not to mention I myself am a child of immigrants.) So this fight is personal, and dire. Thank you for the work that you do!

One minor clarification about the Tribal Nation noted above: I think you meant Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation (which is based in Kansas), not Citizen Potawatomi Nation (based in Oklahoma). While the two share a common language, culture, history, etc., they are two distinct Tribal entities.
