Adrian Andreas Florian was transferred from ICE detention near the border to Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen on November 4, 2025. He was pronounced dead early July 2, 2026.
The only options aren't released into America or jailed. 'Denied entry' should actually mean denied entry and sent back to where he was trying to enter from. In this case, Mexico. If Mexico admitted him without any documentation, he should be their issue to deal with.
This is beginning to look like a pattern. Are older people being detained now until they are sick enough to die? Locally, I’m hearing of people being detained who have been here for 20+ years legally and never committed a crime. They are being held in detention and given little food, no medical care, and threatened. Sounds like Germany to me. Start with the old. They won’t stop there. But we can’t let them. We have got to stop this. We need more inspections. State health departments to shut them down.
From 2020 to 2025, three-hundred-sixty-three women over the age of 75, were deported. In terms of the overall number of women deported during this same five year period, 363 elderly women deportations is small. Individually, each deportation represents a woman over 75 whose life intersected with the immigration enforcement system. Regardless of immigration status, is this how we treat the elderly? Arrests and removals with no record of the weeks or months in between. Or in hospitals within the ICE detention system to live out their remaining days until death. Where is the compassion? Where is the humanity?
They started with us disableds but somehow we matter less even than our seniors. Isn't it unfortunate that people can't recognize what's happening until it's coming for them? We knew what Republicans would do.

Did this older gentleman not have any friends or family in the US? Could he not have been allowed to stay with or near them instead? What about his family back in Germany? Were they notified as to his health condition and whereabouts? How did he get to Mexico and cross the bridge in the first place? There are lots of questions in need of answers!
ICE is the cause of the Eighty Year old man dying. That is so Sad, ICE needs to stop being so inhumane. They do not care or understand. Certain age groups, and some people need medical care. In addition ice is, can You imagine the unnecessary Stress that Ice is putting on individuals.
And you know this how? He was 85 and being treated in the same hospital as local Americans in Brownsville for the last 8 months of his life. He could have gone back to Germany any time and received what we’re told is superior European universal healthcare, but this man chose to cross a bridge from Mexico with no ID.
If as some speculated he simply lost his passport and wanted to go home he could have gone e to a German consulate in Mexico, or hailed himself of consular services while in ICE custody. He could have agreed to voluntary departure and that could have been coordinated with the Houston consulate in 2-4 weeks. Possibly, he refused to go (whether in his right mind or not).
Sad and shocking that a man ended up trapped in custody because his passport was lost or invalid. I guess they didn't even access German embassy in Washington? And yes, white privilege still creating a carve out. Very few 85 year old German nationals are POC simply because of how nationality is gained, dual nationality is usually prohibited by laws there and the time he was born. He could have been the child of migrants to South America after WW2 though... and thus mixed if a single male German fled to escape justice and hid in Argentina or somewhere and married a local... I'm just speculating. Or just someone who went to Mexico and lost his ID docs and tried to enter the US to find an easier way home and got mixed up in ICE.
