Atlanta Event Announcement: Join Me for a Discussion of Trump-Era Immigration Policies, Hosted by Casa Alterna
Do you live in Atlanta? Are you interested in learning more about current immigration policies and data? If so, join me at 7pm on June 5 for the latest policy, research, and data.
Next month, I’ll be heading to Atlanta—one of my favorite cities to visit and reconnect. As some of you know, I spent a few years during graduate school conducting research on immigration enforcement in Georgia. That research—and the people I met along the way—shaped how I think about immigration policy on a national level today.
What I learned from interviewing dozens of senior law enforcement officials, elected representatives, community organizers, and attorney continues to influence my analysis into the complex institutional and legal realities of how immigration enforcement, detention, and deportation unfolds in practice.
I’m grateful to have the opportunity to return again for two conversations on June 5 hosted by Anton Flores and Casa Alterna, and taking place at the Atlanta Friends Meeting House in Decatur.
The evening event is for the general public—and I would greatly appreciate it if you could share this information widely with people in Georgia. The midday roundtable is much more informal and is targeted at attorneys and advocates who already have a deeper knowledge of the immigration system.

Clarity in the Chaos: Responding to Trump’s Immigration Policies
After election day, I wrote about the three terms that would define the second Trump administration: volatility, hypocrisy, and cruelty. We have already seen this unfold in dramatic fashion during the first 100 days. What have learned? How can we host meaningful conversations as communities that care? And how can we respond responsibly?
Join me for a public conversation about the latest immigration policy changes, what the data says—and doesn’t say—about how immigration enforcement policies are playing out, and why it is more important now than ever to have clarity of understanding and purpose.
I’ll be speaking about what’s changing in immigration law and enforcement under this second Trump term—from mass deportations to the erosion of birthright citizenship—and how these shifts fit into a broader political strategy of consolidating executive power. More importantly, we’ll talk about how communities can respond—with truth, with strategy, and with solidarity.

Data, Dignity, and the Deportation Machine (Lawyers and Advocates Only)
Data, Dignity, and the Deportation Machine is a sack lunch roundtable for attorneys and advocates on Thursday, June 5 at 12:30pm. This is meant to be a smaller, informal gathering where we can talk openly about the complex ways data is used—and misused—in immigration enforcement, especially under the second Trump administration. I’ll share some of what I’ve learned through my previous research at TRAC (Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse) and my ongoing work during the first months of the Trump administration. I am eager to hear from those of you who are navigating these challenges in the courtroom and in community. Bring your lunch, your stories, and your ideas for how we respond with clarity and purpose. This event is intended for people who have a higher degree of experience and knowledge of the immigration system.
RSVP is required. Contact heather@casaalterna.org if you plan to come.

Beyond the policy talk, I’m looking forward to catching up with old friends, grabbing coffee at a favorite spot, and sitting with people who remind me why this work matters.
See you soon, Atlanta!
