The 10th Annual Asylum and Immigration Law Conference was held at New York Law School this week, but most of the lessons I learned weren't on the agenda.
Thank you for sharing Irina's work! I'm always searching for creative spaces that tell stories through mediums like film or theater. Her Spacebridge program is very moving.
Oh man ... I usually attend this annual conference, and reading your account makes me really sad I couldn't be there this year. Thank you, Austin, for taking the time to share these thoughts and these resources. And shout out to the inimitable Lenni Benson and her wise words about the power and solace of community.
Thank you so much for all of this here. It is like a goldmine for us non lawyer lay folk concerned about the community and global threat to people in need of refuge temporary or permanent.
What a treasure trove of resources! Thank you, Austin. I wish I’d been there. As for your search for artists offering new narratives and new ways to discuss immigration, I’ll plug my book, CROSSING THE LINE: FINDING AMERICA IN THE BORDERLANDS which seeks to humanize the issue through the transformative power of storytelling.
Glad to see you connecting this with literature and art more broadly. Happy to know this was an invigorating conference.

I am so impressed with Irina!

You were missed! And Lenni was great as always. Wonderful to see everyone.
