I am back in the office this week for my first relatively traditional work week since November when I started a several-week research trip along the length of the US-Mexico border. I have several posts about that trip scheduled for this month, but before I get into that, I want to highlight research that TRAC has published over the past month or so that you start the year off with the most current immigration data we have. I was pulling double-duty for some of these reports, working on them while also on the road, but a lot of the work was done by my incredible colleagues with little help from me. Don’t get the wrong impression that this is all my work.
Thank you very much for this important post on problems with ICE data on the ATD program. I wonder if you have any idea about the quality of their data on COVID-19 in detention? I' tracking the # of currently monitored cases reported by facilityI've seen some surprising fluctuations as well as some surprising facility reports where # reported being monitored seems to be "stuck" (possible evidence of failure to update?)
Thanks for this update. At this point, you have to wonder if other data released to the public by ICE is suspect as well. That might explain their response to the FOIA request.
