Donald Trump promised major and immediate changes to immigration policy on day one of his administration. Follow along below to get real-time updates and analysis as the day unfolds.
Hey, thank you for doing this. I follow all your work closely across multiple platforms. It's a really honorable thing you're doing, not just with this but all your communications on immigration, at a time when it is so important to get information out there. I commend you sir.
Just found your page and honestly loved this article. Out of all the EO’s I def find the ending of birthright citizenship to be the most interesting to watch. I’ve just started my own newsletter on immigration (the timing omg) and I have a piece in the works on naturalization and wow gonna have a big side piece on breaking down this EO
Thank you. I am in California. I heard ICE has been active in the Central Valley. Is this true? I am close to Watsonville and go to Salinas weekly. Worried....
I find it kind of ironic that Biden was sued over mandating CBP One for POE asylum and turning away others, and ACLU is suing over Trump ending CBP One. Of course, we'll we what instructions CBP has with folks that just appear at POEs and ask for asylum -- I'm guessing we're going back to the "metering" policies started during the Obama administration, which was also litigated.
Hi Austin -- the Rodney Scott and Kash Patel are nominations, not appointments. They can't be acting in positions they are nominated for and both require Senate Confirmation. We don't have an announcement of Acting CBP Commissioner or Acting USCIS Director that I've seen.
Thanks, Theresa. I clarified that they are nominees. That will help avoid confusion, so thank you. We do have sub-cabinet acting heads, just updated when I updated this post here: https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/sub-cabinet-appointments/. :) You are right that we have no USCIS but we do have CBP, as noted. If you see anything else or have more on the language here, let me know. I'm taking this from the White House press page. I'm sure you know more about congressional and appointment process than I do.
Yeah - -any of the folks nominated to the sub-cabinet positions can't be "acting" in those jobs. So just like the notices of the Acting Cabinet Secretaries, at some point they need to name "acting" agency heads. The only one so far is Caleb Vitello at ICE, that was named a few weeks ago. But he's not being nominated, and no formal nomination for ICE Director. But they need an Acting DHS Sec to publish any regulations they want to do ASAP.

Thank you so much, that means the world to me.
"Eulogy," LOL. Nice slip.
... oops LOL

Thanks for your valuable work, Austin. Hope you’re able to enjoy the Buckeyes tonight in spite of the dark times we’re living in.
Thanks! They are looking great so maybe ONE good thing will happen today.

Ive only seen reports of activity around Bakersfield
Thank you for the updates. Will share it on my Substack tomorrow and as a note today.
That means the world to me, thank you so much!

OMG I know right? That's exactly what I thought. It's going to be like this for four years. SMH.
Lots of court cases. Need to start a new litigation tracker....

Sorry, nevermind. I corrected that. I was trying to do too much at the same time. Thanks for flagging that.

Ahhh okay thank you! That's we it pays to do this work in public -- so we can check our work!
